FIND THE RIGHT TINY HOUSE SIZE FOR YOU
Tiny houses are uniquely valuable for a number of reasons from mobility, customization, flexibility in use, and so much more. Tiny houses are able to fulfill such a myriad of uses because of their wide range of shapes and sizes. Ranging anywhere from 60 sq.ft up to 400sq.ft, on or off wheels (although most commonly on wheels for the unparalleled ease of transportation it provides). We will guide you through every tiny-sized option so that you can find the right tiny house size for you!
At B&B Micro Manufacturing all of our tiny structures on wheels are backed by the RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association). This provides our clients comfort knowing they are getting a professional product that can act just as an RV can. However, due to the mobility of our structures, they must also follow the Federal Highway Administration’s existing road requirements. Just like semi-trucks, RV’s must ensure they can clear all the overpasses they come in contact with and that they remain within the existing lane widths. (However, because RV’s are not commercial vehicles they are not legally subject to follow commercial vehicle federal regulations. At the same time, every state does in fact have laws that pertain to RV’s and some do not even distinguish a difference between commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Due to the vague and inconsistent laws that apply to RV’s size requirements, B&B Micro Manufacturing adheres to the safest standards available.)
HEIGHT:
MAX: 13’6″
As stated above, every state has its own regulations when it comes to transportation, and height clearances are no different. The east coast has a height limit of 13’6”, while the west coast has a limit of 14’, and Alaska a whopping 15’ height clearance. However, because B&B Micro Manufacturing’s home base is in Adams, Massachusetts we always keep our structures below 13’6” in height. Ensuring our client’s product is always safe when traveling.
WIDTH:
ROAD LEGAL:
8’6″
If our clients want a structure that can travel anywhere at any time, it must remain within 8’6” of width. This is for the obvious reason of lane widths which range anywhere from 10-12’.
PARK MODEL:
10′
If 8’6” isn’t going to cut it for your project, there is the Park Model option. Allowing you to design up to 10’ in width. The extra foot and a half is life-changing for an interior designer, but you must also take into account the loss of mobility and flexibility that comes along with such a decision. When you have a structure at 10’ in width you must obtain a permit for any transportation on public roads. At B&B Micro Manufacturing we always recommend finding a permanent home for any structure that will be a park model.
LENGTH:
12′ – 40′
SMALL
The height and width of our tiny structures are the most limiting factors when it comes to finding the right tiny house size for you. Where the real fun occurs, is in the length. Our smallest trailer can be 12’ (although this size is quite limiting for space optimization), depending on the specific use of your structure we typically recommend starting at 16’. Smaller structures are best for those who will be traveling frequently. It is much more mobile and flexible making it perfect for nomadic lifestyles and businesses.
